How it all began

This site is dedicated to the collaborative works of DJ Dougherty and David Derr, both respected artists in a variety of mediums. These pieces are products of "playtime" at their shared studio when, after a day of intense and solitary, more serious work, they lighten up by putting unique objects together in unexpected ways.

The artists

DJ Dougherty

Dougherty started his professional career as an art director for a variety of Manhattan advertising agencies. He later attended The New England School of Photography in Boston, MA, where he developed his eye for shadow and light and unexpected photocollages. He also worked as an art consultant and gallery director and went on to become a dealer in original vintage posters. In 2018, Dougherty retired and began painting.

David Derr

Derr has has exhibited throughout the United States and Europe. His works appear in museums, corporate, government and private collections throughout the world. He has paintings in The Skylands Museum in Lafayette, NJ. In February 2024 he was awarded a grant in painting from the NJ State Council on the Arts. Derr also has a digital piece included in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Museum. His digital works have earned him invitations to numerous international exhibitions.
